Responsibilites of Parent Led Accredited Home School Programs

Understanding the responsibilities of parent led accredited home school programs

Due to certain benefits of home schooling, many parents have decided to teach their children at home. Though the concept of home schooling is highly beneficial to children with special needs and circumstances along with helping the average child achieve excellence academically, it also requires a high level of commitment from the parent. Understanding the responsibilities as well as the support provided by parent led accredited home school programs will help make the right decision.

The concept of public schooling works well for most parents who find that their work or home commitments do not allow them the liberty to educate their child at home. So obviously the most basic requirement of a parent led accredited home school program is the time demanded from the parent. However, flexibility of time allows the parent to decide the convenient time for scheduling study. Parent led accredited home school programs like Switched-On Schoolhouse R² offered by Alpha Omega Publications do facilitate teaching for the parents by providing the curriculum via interactive CD ROMs, yet parental attention is a necessary prerequisite to the method of teaching.
Another parent led accredited home school program is offered by The Jubilee Academy which provides guidance from trained staff members in the relevant field but it is parent who not only oversees the entire study process but also teaches each subject. The involvement of the parent is extended to the examinations too. Parents mark the tests taken by the student and are provided with a password, which allows them access to the answers to help them grade the child properly.

Under such circumstances, the involvement of the parent in the education of the child is very high. Right from the teaching of the curriculum, to guiding the child about the subjects and then finally testing the proficiency level of the child, is undertaken by the parent. Under these circumstances, the parent is quick to target the areas where the child requires more guidance and thus contribute largely to the student’s academic success.

There are online teacher led programs like the ones offered by MorningStar Academy but here though the level of involvement of the parent is not as high as in the case of complete parent led accredited home school programs yet there is a constant need for parental supervision.

As discussed above there are varying levels of parental involvement in the various home schooling programs offered. Yet the parental responsibility only fluctuates in the various programs while the prerequisite of parental supervision remains constant.
